Lionel Messi named Barcelona New captain

Lionel Messi has been named as Barcelona's new captain for the 2018/19 season, Skysports reported.

The Argentine 31-year-old takes over the role following the departure of Andres Iniesta to Japanese club Vissel Kobe.

Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique and Sergi Roberto will also wear the armband when required.

Finally! Pique confirms retirement from national team

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique confirmed his retirement from Spain national team, goal.com reported. 

“I have had a really good time, with a European Championship and a World Cup, but that story is at an end. I have told this to Luis Enrique,” he said.

Pique deputed in Spain national team in 2009, and scored five goals in 103 appearances.

Bayern Munich intends to sign Ivan Rakitic

Bayern Munich intends to sign Barcelona's midfielder Ivan Rakitic during the current transfer window, The Sun reported.

German club's boss Niko Kovac, is personally interested in the 30-year-old player. French giants PSG were reportedly preparing to launch a sensational £112million bid for Rakitic.

During the past season, Rakitic scored two goals, and made five goals assists in 45 appearances.

Luka Modric has made the decision to stay at Real Madrid, AS reports, with the Croatian now set to make the same as captain Sergio Ramos.

It had been said that Modric was tempted by the offer of a guaranteed six-year deal offered by the owners of Inter Milan and Jiangsu Suning – a four-year deal in Italy, followed by two in China.

Madrid, however, have offered Modric improved terms to stay, which, according to the report, had been the 32-year-old's preferred option the whole time.

Jose Mourinho insisted Paul Pogba is happy to be back at Manchester United following France's World Cup victory, despite reports linking the midfielder with a move to Barcelona and Juventus.


Pogba played a crucial role for Didier Deschamps' triumphant side in Russia, and the 25-year-old star returned to United training on Monday ahead of Friday's opening Premier League fixture of the season against Leicester City.


La Liga champions Barca are reportedly interested in taking Pogba to Camp Nou, with the transfer window still open until August 31 for most of Europe's major leagues, while former club Juve have also been linked.
