Kyle Walker has heaped praise on England and Tottenham team-mate Andros Townsend after the winger gave a man-of-the-match performance in his Three Lions debut.
The 22-year-old was a surprise inclusion in Roy Hodgson's starting XI against Montenegro on Friday night, but repaid that faith with an excellent display and stunning solo goal.
Walker believes Townsend is deserving of all the praise that is coming his way, and hopes the flying winger can build on the experience to become even better.
“Andros lives, breathes, sleeps and eats football,” Walker told FATV.
“All his hard work and dedication has come off tonight and hopefully it's a stepping block for him to go on and do big things.
“Me and [Jermain] Defoe give him a bit of stick saying he's shooting but doesn't score. But he took it well and I'm made up for him, personally being a friend, hopefully it's the start of big things for him.”
Walker, meanwhile, picked up a yellow card in the 4-1 victory over Montenegro which will rule him out of the must-win clash with Poland.
The 23-year-old rued the “stupidity” of his challenge, tugging back Stevan Jovetic, but hopes his team-mates can seal England's passage to Brazil in his absence.
“I want to get to the World Cup, I want to be a part of the team at the World Cup,” he added.
“It's a disappointment for me, a stupid yellow card, hopefully the boys will go and get the result on Tuesday and I'll be cheering them on.
“Fingers crossed and touch wood [my next game will be a friendly] but we still have a job to do on Tuesday. We’ve still got to get a result and put in a performance.”
